Do you want to feel like a local? we’ll teach you what to do, how to reach the best and as a tip, what you shouldn’t do. This way you could surf the culture of eating pintxos during the rest of your stay. We’ve chosen only the best bites the city of San Sebastian has to offer.
PINTXO HOPPING
The tour starts at a bar that’s been the local’s favorite since the 70s. You’ll try a selection of the best mussels in town paired with dry/sour Basque cider. Learn how to pour cider from a height straight into your glass and know more all about the popular yell of “TXOTX!”
This first stop would be the introduction into what going out for pintxos really means in Donostia – San Sebastian.
Following this stop you’ll learn lots about Spain’s most famous delicacy: cured Iberian ham. Visit the local market were we’ll introduce you to a family-run butcher shop where you’ll dive into Basque and Spanish deli products. You will be trying the most-renowned and most expensive cured ham. You’ll easily understand the big difference between them after our explanations and tasting.
After gathering locals in the market, we’ll head to the Old Town’s beautiful main square where , where beside the beauty, lot’s of stories and history had to be told…before our next stop.
Just one block away from the square we will enjoy fresh fish, in THE bar where they make the best marinated anchovies we’ll ever try. (not fishy, bonny, or smelly…. just fresh daily catched anchovies, not canned ones! ) Do you think you don’t like anchovies? Trust us, or just wait. This bar’s pintxos have changed the mind of many anchovy doubter, you just might be next! Learn all about the first pintxo ever invented and taste regional sparkling white wine.
What’s after this? it’s time for another local favorite: the hot spot for grilled steak. Enjoy a pintxo of tender sirloin steak, paired with a glass of red Navarra or Rioja wine.
Next stop, where and what could we have? Visit one of the city’s most famous pintxo bar, where the past meets the present, where best local ingredients and innovative cooking techniques will take the pintxos to the maximum expression of art and taste.
